Dead Air developed the Sierra 5 specifically around the requirements of modern 5.56 rifle platforms rather than adapting a larger multi-caliber suppressor to the cartridge.

Its internal construction combines Cobalt 6 baffles with stainless-steel components. Dead Air describes its high-efficiency baffle design as balancing sound reduction at the muzzle with reduced back pressure and muzzle-flash mitigation.
